Making Grocery Shopping Fun for Kids

Some parents, no matter how much they deny it, prefer hiring baby sitters to look after their children while they go out for grocery shopping. This is because they would not want their shopping for groceries be interrupted by the kids’ wailing and tantrums. Others, who are not lucky enough to find someone to baby sit or those who cannot afford to hire a baby sitter, have no choice but to bring their kids along with them and deal with the headaches associated with bringing a bored child along, including the damages an over excited or a playful child can cause.

There are things a parent can do to make grocery shopping a fun task for his children and the first on the list is planning. It is advisable to tell your children ahead of time that you are about to go grocery shopping with them. Make sure your voice is enthusiastic, like you are planning a great activity for the whole family. Include them in the grocery shopping plan. Make a plan which allows everybody to participate. The plan should be explained like a game, a task kids are more likely to understand with so much willingness, with rules of how they should behave inside the grocery store and what they should do in case they get lost. If your children are old enough to pick some items on their own, it is advisable to assign them tasks. Give them a part of your grocery list with the list of items they can get, but make sure you still keep an eye on them and check their lists.

Most importantly, know how to reward a job well done. If your children have behaved according to the rules you have set earlier, it is nice to give them some sort of reward for being good, like a box of chocolates or their favorite chips.
